Quality Summit - Testability

Foredragsholdere

Agenda

16:30 - 17:30 Shifting testability - Ash Winter (Skybet)

Testers. Always worried about something. How will I survive an agile transformation? Almost fended that off and I have to survive "devops" somehow. You've shifted left and right so many times I imagine its hard to remember where you started from. The most effective direction of shift was always within a testers gift, but wasn't obvious to them. Usually struggling with hard to test systems and deploying the same tactics to cope:

* Doing more testing?
* Hiring more testers?
* Bringing in SDETS to do automation?
* Firing and hoping to forget into Production?

Time to shift our roles towards testability. Testable systems are easier to support and maintain. Being able to observe, control and understand systems is a unifying force across disciplines, from those build to those who operate systems. So many testers talk about whole team approaches to testing but do not talk about testability. Without addressing testability, hard to test often defeats your desire for a whole team approach.

With this in mind, I'll cover the following:

* Examples of the benefits of an enhanced testability focus in my recent past
* Testability as an explicit focus, to enhance maintainability and supportability
* What habits, behaviours and skills could mould testers into a testability adepts

Ash Winter is a learning tester, conference speaker, unashamed internal critic, with an eye for an untested assumption or claim. Veteran of various roles encompassing testing, performance engineering and automation. As a team member delivering mobile apps and web services or a leader of teams and change. He helps teams think about testing problems, asking questions and coaching when invited.

17:30- 18:15 George’s marvellous medicine - Gwen Diagram (Sky)

I am a highly motivated Software Tester, DevOps Engineer, Scrum Master and International Speaker. In my spare time I attend, speak at and organise Testing, Agile, Coding and DevOps events - I have spoken at TestBash Manchester and Brighton, Agile on the Beach, Nordic Testing Days, Agile Yorkshire, Leeds DevOps, Sheffield DevOps, JAX DevOps, TechUG, Yorkshire Women in Testing, and Founders Friday. In 2016, I was a passenger on the StartUpBus UK; a 72 hour hackathon across Europe where our app, TippleLDN made it to the finals. I am part of a team of seven who organise Leeds Testing Atelier (http://leedstestingcommunity.co.uk/) and I have assisted with organising Leeds Hack (http://leedshack.org/).
